The Hunt For Red October

I’ve experienced this in my second marriage. God has exalted me in the eyes of my wife, and she calls me her pastor. Wait, I got that wrong a little bit, she calls me her own personal pastor. My son, Ashton, when I have the next step for him, in my duty, my due diligence as his father to lead him beyond his comfort zone… I often refer to my resume. The accomplishments to date of all that he has, and which of those are because of his Dad, me. Don’t listen to me because you understand why, or how, but because you trust me. Ashton and his Mom both are the worst and the best to cook dinner for. It’ll tell you lots about me perhaps, when I cook dinner… their reaction is telling… I enjoy their criticism only when they give me praise. This past Thanks Giving Ashton said these words, “This is astonishingly Good!” that’s so Ashton. When ever I have failed… the deadly words, accompanied by the action of the dropping of metal fork on ceramic plate (can you hear the sound? CLINK!) “Sorry to say this dude…” and I then know that the organic food waste bin will be the only grateful soul for that night’s dinner. I hate it. But like I said, when I am successful, he’s pretty good at telling me! LOL
Hunt For Red October is a great movie. Ryan is played by Alec Baldwin, and the Russian Submarine (Red October) Captain, Ramius, is played by Sean Connery. Mancuso is the American Submarine Captain. The scene I’m thinking of is to be seen… see the whole movie… but a little back story < that’s the link to the YouTube clip.
Ramius is Captain of the latest weapon of mass destruction created by the Russians… and he doesn’t believe in it. Its created for only one purpose, to start a war that will only end in complete oblivion of the human race. So he hijaks his own submarine… and is driving it to the USA to hand it over to the Americans. An analyst, Jack Ryan, for the CIA discovers Ramius plan and manages to get himself on board Bart Mancuso’s boat, who has been tracking the Red October. Mancuso is already concerned with, wondering about what the Russians are up to, and is keeping track of him. When Jack Ryan arrives, he manages to convince Mancuso to board the Red October with a crew of his men. He tells Mancuso to trust him, that Ramius is going to defect, and hand over the Red October… Mancuso is doubtful… but he’s convinced enough to proceed on a “we’ll see about that basis” So vault ahead now to the scene… they’re inside the sub, the entire crew of the Red October has been offloaded without knowing the truth, they are dooped into getting off. and the only one’s left are a tight knit few that are in on it with Ramius. There they are in the control room of the Red October… and another Russian Submarine – sent by head office to blow Ramius out of the water – fires a torpedo at the Red October, Jack Ryan is put at the helm, he is told by Ramius to do so, and then he’s told to basically steer into the path of the torpedo and to speed up! Mancuso who still doesn’t trust Ramius true intentions (the doubter LOL) says, “…don’t do it Ryan” Ramius simply repeats the previous command to Ryan, “right such and such degrees, full throttle” (I paraphrased watch the movie) and Ryan obeys… thing don’t go as Mancuso expects, and the result is that Ramius is vindicated…
Each time I’ve asked my wife, or my son, Ashton, to trust me, they have done so, and we’ve seen miracles happen. Each time I give credit to God. My wife’s second highest praise of me is when she calls me, “The Man That Gets Things Done” (the highest is “personal pastor”) and whenever she says that, I tell us all that its because HE is the God that Get’s things done!
