Ashton and Mercedes

Ashton and Mercedes

Capacities clamor to be used, and cease their clamor only when they are used sufficiently.

“Towards a Psychology of Being” Abraham Maslow

I love this picture of my son, Ashton, riding Mercedes at Pony Pals

What’s the goal of Therapeutic Horseback riding? To develop such things as balance, and core strength. But as an add on benefit he also has developed confidence, overcome his fears.

At first his fears led to being aggressive toward the horse, and apprehensive. His fear was of the unknown. A horse like Mercedes, a Clydesdale cross, is a big animal, but simple things like getting on and off of her back are a challenge for him. But then his comfort level can be seen in his firm yet gentle control of the splendid beast.

Then one day, he was thrown off. Mercedes

The “clamour” Maslow speaks of I identify as anxiety with no horse to ride. And it soon attaches itself to whatever I allow it to.
