Authors That I Quote

If you’re offended by my reference to an author, give me a call, and I’ll make an effort to do a good job of it!

Story about,

  • The guy: “What did you just say?!?”
  • Me: “whatever is the most offensive upsetting thing I could have possibly meant, that’s it there.”

I examine “why” sometimes. Most times to be honest. Especially when the ‘fruit’ of my deeds or words is bitter or downright harmful.

I used to swear a lot. Shut the F up! I’ve been cutting down lately!

The most offensive word, arguably, is the word that starts with F, followed by the last three letters in Fire Engine.

I realized that at least in part, my use of the F-bomb was to get the inevitable over with! If that’s gonna estrange me from you, then let’s get it over with!

But that’s not very gentle. And hardly defendable.

A W Tozer

I am an old person. I don’t like taking credit when it isn’t me… but sometimes I forget where I heard it. I think it’s from his book, “I Call It Heresy” but I’ve lost that book!

More about Tozer. He was a man before his time! But in God’s point of reference – who always does what he does in the fullness of time! – he is as exactly on time. And though I’m on this side of putting him up there with the Apostle Paul, I am only just shy of going so. I recommend everything and anything by him you can get your f’ing hands on.

I’m telling you all of this because I’m leading up to a story.

I have gone to some various churches and been blessed by some various denominations within Christendom. I quote Augustine! And one such is the Alliance church. If you go into anyone of their buildings, up on the wall, possibly in their vestimentabule or foyblery or even the lobby, you might see his portrait on the wall. No? Try the pastor’s study! He’s a revered and previous memory and fore runner in the history of their church.

A W Tozer

So now for a short story. There was once upon a time an unfortunate individual that I am an acquaintance of – that’s the long winded way my Dad use to refer to twerps – who happened to visit me at the Alliance church I’d been attending. When he saw their portrait of Tozer, he mentioned something about it being evil to worship human beings.

I just rolled my eyes into my handkerchief.

Why are you a bus driver? Is a story worth telling from those days.
