ἀδελφός (adelphós)
The word means sibling.
The bible’s original languages are Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. There is a distance between these languages and our own language. That distance is cultural, but it is also one of time, how else does one put it? The original scriptures date back over 6000 years. Language changes over time. And then, finally, there’s things that are lost in translation. There’s idiomatic speech that cannot be taken literally by examining each word.
As the crow flies.
This is a good example. Its meaning is seen when you think of the distance one has to travel when needing to go by trails, and roads, as opposed to the distance between two points if one was a bird, and thus able to “fly over” all the obstacles in between. Obstacles being immovable objects like mountains, buildings, and trees.
That’s not obvious by defining each word.
