Carl Jung and I

“But it’s interesting that when I started to refer to him or quote him, I found out that there are those against him and those for him. That identifying myself with him puts me with them and I am written off. I was once scolded for talking about him to an impressionable youth!

From my Being On Time post

Part of it seems to be because of his belief in the spiritual realm – that distances him from the secular world – and another part is his belief in the natural realm – which distances him from the church types. It’s this non-spiritual origin of things that helped me understand myself.”

I’m no expert here, so just act like we’re chatting over a coffee and muffin at Timmie’s or Starbuck’s.

Admittedly I’ve spent zero time looking into or listening to Freud. My reason for listening to Jung was because of my own personal experience and benefit from his Personality Archetypes,

In 1912, Jung published “Psychology of the Unconscious”, outlining the clear theoretical divergence between himself and Freud, as well as forming the basic tenets of Analytical Psychology. Jung believed the human psyche exists in three parts; the ego (the conscious mind), the personal unconscious, and the collective unconscious (which included Jung’s ideas concerning Archetypes).

and his being involved in the birth of Alcoholics Anonymous. I wanted to know more about each of these things, because of my Faith in God, and that the Bible is our primary source of truth, the ultimate truth. That in the case of disagreement, my bias is towards the Bible. But those like Jung never set out AGAINST the Bible or Christianity. My view is that they were sincerely searching for answers, not on a mission to quash faith. I don’t feel threatened by him if you know what I mean.

Jung ventured into the paranormal, not something I would do, nor recommend. The bible is clear that the spiritual realm is real, that Satan and demons are not fake, nor natural phenomenon. My safety from Satan is that I am in Christ, and that He is in me. I found this quote about Jung’s investigations:

Jung was heavily interested in the field of para-psychology and in particular psychic phenomenon such as telepathy and synchronicity (which would come to form part of his theories). In his youth, Jung often attended séances and his doctoral thesis investigated ‘The Psychology and Pathology of So Called Occult Phenomena’ which featured his cousin as the medium.
