Cheryl’s Crisis

August 29, 2025

  • Cheryl came to me in the morning and said she wanted me to take her to the hospital, she believed she was having a heart attack
  • I didn’t think so… we argued… I told God in my heart that He needed to take over, input my trust in Him. I took her to our ER
  • When we arrived I sent some texts to our home group>

Home Group Chat>

  • Please pray for Cheryl.
She believes she is having a heart attack
  • We are in Delta ER, next for triage
  • So far her blood sugar is
    “off the chart”
    19.0 mmols
Normal is 4.7-7.0 or 10.o after meals
  • She is not taking one of her blood sugar meds because of other side effects
  • I’m hoping today they’ll convince her to start taking those pills
  • Pray for that

Answered Prayer

While waiting in the ER A familiar, and much loved face appeared. I couldn’t understand. Was Vahid ok? Then I realized, he came to pray with and for us, and to build us up.

He had 2 scriptures for us

1 Samuel 2:1-10

Psalm 37:3-9

Cheryl and I both wept, and were encouraged through to our core.

A phone call from Robert

Our neighbour called us, and asked if there was anything he could do. I asked him to go and see to it that our son had supper, and also his peace of mind and heart.

Robert walked with him to a restaurant nearby to get a meal.

  • Thank you Art for telling Robert Kumbalavelil, he called and asked about it. I asked him to help Ashton get something to eat. They just left a-walking 🥲
  • Miracle report >
Vahid came to visit and pray… calming and faith building for Cheryl… she cried as she began to hear the Holy Spirit…
  • This stuck in my mind as a testimony
  • While waiting in the exam area, we struck up a conversation with a young man, Melvyn, 25 years old, from the Philippines… who has had some allergic reaction and is covered in hives. He and his friend (James) with him are also RPN students on their practicum… when I shared that I had asked for prayer, and that an angel named Vahid had come to pray… Melvyn asked us if we are believers… he is also!
  • A few minutes later… when the doctor consulted with Cheryl and I, we were a few feet away but behind a curtain. During the examination the doctor mentioned DKA acronym… but it didn’t register with Cheryl nor myself.
We then went and sat down beside Melvyn and James… Melvyn spoke directly to Cheryl asking how she was doing… and mentioned the acronym DKA again… I asked what that is? He typed it out so that I could look it up.
  • This is a very crucial doctor visit. And Vahid’s word is a comfort to us.
  • Andre (my son-in-law) has a word for us on the island… that God is in the evil and the good… the idea being that all things work together for good Romans 8:28?
  • Vahid has a recent testimony with this same message …

A word from our son-in-law Andre>

Well… I googled what he said, and found this>

God writes “straight on crooked lines” is a proverbial expression, often attributed to St. Teresa of Avila or a Portuguese proverb, that means God can fulfill His perfect plan through the imperfect actions, weaknesses, and struggles of people and circumstances. Despite life’s twists and turns, confusions, and even evil events, God can guide and use them to achieve His divine purpose.

Here is the scripture that came to mind when I read this >

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been calledaccording to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Another Vistor

Thank you Pastor Mark for visiting Cheryl early on Saturday morning. You met and prayed for her, and encouraged her.

He had prayed that she would have her own room for that night! It turned out to be her own room indeed. They discharged her!

The Patient requested…

When I visited Cheryl in the morning, she asked for me to bring her a puzzle book to pass the time.

I left, and came back home. I told Ashton we’d be going to visit, and that we’d need to get a puzzle book for her.

I told Ashton:

Hey, this is what mom needs… he went upstairs to get ready, he came down, and I thought he went and sat in the truck waiting for me to go with him…

[my friend] Art showed up in the meantime so I was updating him, and called to Ashton to come sit with us… no answer

Then I got up… he’s not there?!?

I phoned him… he’s at dollarama getting the puzzle For Mom!

He’s awesome!

Home Coming!

They discharged her around 4:00 pm.
