Cheryl’s Road

God’s angels…

Update>

Since her hospital discharge, Cheryl has been >

  • Intentional in her eating
  • Monitoring her blood sugars at intervals throughout the day
  • Administering her insulin injections
  • Taking her meds at 12 hr intervals
  • Recording her data
  • Researching hunches

September 4, 2025 she and I saw our GP and showed her the data, and etc

  • Cheryl learned more about the use of her “long acting” insulin
  • Cheryl confirmed some research about what to eat and when

We both left the appointment very much encouraged; we have hope!

Since Cheryl relies on me for the home group WhatsApp chat, she only just heard – on our way home from Doctor’s – about something Alisa mentioned,

A gentle tear came to her eye. As was the case with my own. We are so thankful for the body of Christ, and for these that have been placed in our lives. Thank you to you all.

Blood Sugar

A normal A1C level is generally below 5.7%. An A1C result between 5.7% and 6.4% indicates prediabetes, while a level of 6.5% or higher, confirmed on two separate tests, diagnoses diabetes. The A1C test measures your average blood sugar level over the past two to three months.

Diabetes Canada

Cheryl’s was measured in the hospital and it was 12.3 %

That means her daily average for 90 days was 17.o mmols!

This was due to discontinuation of a drug that gave her side effects that she no longer wanted to deal with. She had hoped to overcome her diabetes with diet and exercise. But she couldn’t do it. The summer was too filled with other things to do.

Cheryl is confirmed that she was in diabetic ketoacidosis. It is a life threatening condition!

God saved her life.

Thank you!

Cheryl’s insulin>

She began on 5 units in the morning, and 5 units at night. 9:00 am/pm along with her other meds.

She took her blood sugar (BG) readings before each dose. Before and after meals.

Doctor said that if her BG is above 7.o mmols, that she is to increase her night dose by 1 unit. Repeat!

So far she is down to her morning BG is 8.o mmols, we’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

Day by day, we trust in Jesus!
