Come and See

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.

  • John 1:38 the two disciples of John the Baptist, “Rabbi, where are you staying?
  • addressed him as TEACHER
  • asking him “where are you staying” is on my mind today…
  • I think possibly it was like “how can we get a hold of you?” what’s your phone number? what’s your address?

  • NOT LIKE the folks in John 6 whom Jesus eluded because he sensed they would try to take him by force to be their king

After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.
