2 Samuel 6:14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. 15 So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams’ horns.
Michal’s Contempt for David
16 But as the Ark of the Lord entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she was filled with contempt for him.
17 They brought the Ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the special tent David had prepared for it. And David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord. 18 When he had finished his sacrifices, David blessed the people in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. 19 Then he gave to every Israelite man and woman in the crowd a loaf of bread, a cake of dates,[b] and a cake of raisins. Then all the people returned to their homes.
20 When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said in disgust, “How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!”
In this case David “gets naked before the Lord” ?
- No, he takes off his outer garments. God doesn’t advocate for us to become naturalists, really or figuratively. Discretion, and propriety come into it. Romans 14 says we must keep in mind the level of faith that our brother in Christ has… and not cause him/her to stumble.
David, he is dancing as the Ark of God is being brought back into its proper place. He’s doing it Gods way this time! The first time Uzzah perished! (2 Samuel 6:) (this is why Uzzah perished> 1 Chronicles 15 explains it)
John 15: Jesus commands us “Love one another….”
Michal hated David! She was jealous! She framed David’s humility as sensual depravity. She mocked him! Read the rest of the chapter to see what happened to her.
Exodus 25:22 and Ephesians 2:22
God has chosen us as his dwelling place… very profoundly scriptures are coming to me now! Genesis 28:10-22
Jacob’s ladder and Jesus’ words in John 1:50 Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open…Read more
Purity and Loving one another but also humility to “take off the outer garments” quit hiding the need!
Quit trying to be pretty! Quit trying to fit in! Instead LOVE take up your cross and follow him.
I’m an odd duck! For me, I am careful that I don’t put my whole weight on everyone and anyone I don’t have to tell the truth to everyone as long as I’m telling the truth to someone My first marriage and divorce was messy. My ex is a very troubled lady But not many know my story… But some I tell… cuz it’s a testimony of Gods work in me Revelation 12:11. Some mistakenly translate or paraphrase… they overcame him… and they say, “that’s Satan…” but that’s a glib thing to say! Its the dragon mentioned earlier in the chapter! Yes, its evil personified! Its all of his minions! The knowing and the unknowing! Jesus said “Get thee behind me Satan!” to Peter! To confront the evil lurking in Peter! Sometimes our brothers and sisters in Christ are unaware, they are unknowingly servants of the enemy!
When Jesus dwells by his Holy Spirit in each of us… he brings about the likeness of Christ in us. We become like him. We become the place on earth that God’s angels come and go. But we are prone, and we are not yet made perfect… that’s why we must speak the truth in love to one another. Exhorting and encouraging one another. Edification.
