Higher Court

My words>

I just wanted to let you know.

I’m taking you to court.

Your actions in word and deed, lead me to believe that for you, there is no higher court, no higher authority than thee.

No recourse for poor men like me.

So I’m taking you to the Supreme Court, which is a risk for me, because the word of God is swift and sure, sharper than any two edged sword. But the me that is at risk, is the me that needs to be dead and gone.

There’s so much at stake, but I know he cares.

I know that there is a mystery of what’s up there, beyond that ridge, as  we both climb higher.

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”

THE HIGHER COURT

Verse 1
I just wanted you to know,
I’ve carried this a long, long way.
Watched the words and watched the deeds,
And heard the things you wouldn’t say.

There were days I searched for justice,
There were nights I searched for peace.
But every road I walked alone
Left my wounded heart no relief.

Pre-Chorus
So I’m laying down my weapons,
I’m releasing what I can’t control.
Not because it doesn’t matter,
But because there’s One who knows.

Chorus
I’m taking you to the Higher Court,
Beyond the reach of pride and force.
Where every hidden thing is known,
And every crooked line runs its course.

I’m taking you to the Higher Court,
Not for revenge, not to settle scores.
I’m placing this before the King,
And trusting what His judgment’s for.

Verse 2
It’s a dangerous thing for me,
To stand beneath that searching light.
For the sword that cuts through every lie
Will also cut through mine.

The Word of God is swift and sure,
Sharper than a two-edged blade.
And the man who wants to justify himself
Must finally fade away.

Pre-Chorus
There’s a self that fears the verdict,
There’s a self that must be gone.
Only mercy keeps me standing,
Only grace can lead me on.

Chorus
I’m taking you to the Higher Court,
Beyond the reach of pride and force.
Where every hidden thing is known,
And every crooked line runs its course.

I’m taking you to the Higher Court,
Not for revenge, not to settle scores.
I’m placing this before the King,
And trusting what His judgment’s for.

Bridge
There’s so much at stake between us,
And I don’t know what’s waiting there.
Beyond the ridge we’re climbing toward,
Beyond the questions, beyond the fear.

But I know He sees the valleys,
And I know He knows the climb.
The path is hidden from our eyes,
Yet held within His hands in time.

Final Chorus
So I’m taking you to the Higher Court,
And there I’ll leave this heavy load.
Not abandoning the matter,
But placing it upon the road.

The road where mercy walks with justice,
The road where truth and grace are one.
The road where every knee will bow
Before the Father’s perfect Son.
