Hobart Genesis

I have been practicing the art of writing fiction! Following Anne Lamott’s rules on how to do so, in her book “Bird by Bird

My son Ashton is enjoying it immensely! Surprisingly even!

On March break I’m going to read what I have so far to my five grandchildren, ages 7-13…

You’ll notice that my own childhood is loosely drawn from. This has not been so much intentional as it has been a case of: there I am writing when along comes this memory of Marion Archer, the Mom of my friends. In the story she’s Sally Archer. A boy who bullied me in junior high school is there also, Brock Heubner.

I’m doing this daily. After my morning shift I have been stopping off at the coffee shoppe across the street from the school. With a single idea in my head a story forms, but only as I wrote it! The strange beginning was an attempt to describe how we should approach bible reading like one would a finding fossil unearthed through a rain storm.
