Kitsalano

I’ve lived in many communities over my 61 years. I’ve got them all written down somewhere.

One of the things that stood out for me when living in Kits is the question I always had on my mind as I passed amongst them, “Why are you alone?”

There’s a certain kind of community where that question does but come up for me. Where I’m living now for example. Here’s a story.

I’d just dropped my wife off at a grocery store near us, and I was hungry, so I drove over to the Subway Restaurant. After ordering my sandwich, “cold cut combo cheese and toasted” I went down the hall to use the washroom. When I got back there was a lady close in age to myself, and the young lady serving us was in her 20’s maybe. I was just in time to see this lady had already ordered, and the efficient cook was already cutting open the sandwich, and pressing the halves flat. My meal was ready… she brought mine over to the prep table, and I gave her mu veggie choices each by each.
