…a poet can’t help it! If you want to learn more about Poets, try this National Film Board archive found on YouTube, about Leonard Cohen. If you’ve got things to do, and don’t want to soak it all up, zip over to about minute 7:30… and listen from there. A well known genius named Pierre Burton,
. . . see a short film about him HERE – interesting how he re-engineered a plot of land to artificially make it to conform to his will. That’s divergent tangent… welcome back… so, Pierre’s confusion, and inability to grasp Leonard Cohen is obvious… he’s trying to box him up; understand him; comprehend him! Now zip over to about 9:40 for this exchange between Cohen and another unknown fellow in a sound studio after the interview…
“How did you make out with Pierre Burton? Well… Uhm, ah… well, he really wanted me to cut my con out, you know, he really really implied, “OK, Leonard Cohen, we known the party line, you know what you got to do, but tell us about this business of poetry, what’s the true story, is wrestling really fixed…”
NFB – Leonard Cohen (0:9:40 – 0:9:57)
Cohen is talking in the interview about making peace with the world around it… the fellow with him, Irving Layton, is trying to bridge the gap between these two men… these two worlds… Layton tries to explain, about the preservation of self in a world that is trying to steam roller over SELF and making us all into uniform, conformed ones… did you look at the Pierre Burton film?!? Oh my gosh… in the Cohen interview, the arrogant Burton exclaims, “…well you’ve lost me!!!”
I have a fear of hubris (fear of being great) maybe… but I am absolutely reluctant to call myself a writer, never mind such a lofty title of poet or prophet… but I see myself in all three of those miserable paradigms. I say miserable because I didn’t choose my calling, I discovered it… I kept running into it, blocked by it… like a constant, recurring nightmare obstacle… and it is still yet that all the more…
I struggle to get out the thoughts of my heart… for others to hear… and I am plagued by the, “…how long is this going to take?” I wish I had an Irving Layton to explain me to people… LOL, but it didn’t help… Burton’s arrogance was impenetrable! Brene Brown’s commentary about what to do with the peanut gallery comes to mind… do I sound hostile? I’m emoting, that’s different LOL
