I have been watching and listening to folks trying to cope with an uncertain future. Some are trying to guess what’s going to happen in these contract negotiations between CMBC and our united workers in their employ. One place they go to is by looking at what has happened in the past.
Here’s a quote from “Towards a Paychology of Being” by Abraham Maslow
“Also we must realize that only the future is in principle unknown and unknowable, which means that all habits, defenses and coping mechanisms are doubtful and ambiguous since they are based on past experience. Only the flexibly creative person can really manage future, only the one who can face novelty with confidence and without fear. I am convinced that much of what we now call psychology is the study of the tricks we use to avoid the anxiety of absolute novelty by making believe the future will be like the past.”
How do YOU deal with the anxiety of not having any guarantee of what will happen tomorrow?
Courage in the face of an uncertain future is seen in doing what you believe in, come what may! Doing it because you believe in it!
Courage is not the absence of fear.
