Reaching for The Jug

I was reaching for the jug…

Was Eve hungry in the garden when she reached into a tree for something to eat, and the serpent put that fabled apple there?

This is the story…

She was lied to and enticed…

She knew the truth, and she believed the lie instead.

It’s me! I have the truth of God’s word, yet I exchange it for the lie. For some preferred fruit over just resting in him, some temporary pleasure over eternal bliss.

For Eve, temptation came along, she reached up and disobeyed. Plain and simple.

She

took it!

She

bit into it!

And then she gave it to Adam… who was right there with her.

who was right there with her

who was right there with her

Was she an innocent, helpless prey for a cunning liar? She made her excuse, and Adam made his excuse.

What’s my excuse?

I know it’s when I’m alone, and the idea comes to me, that nobody will know. God always knows. And that’s when I have a chance to choose…

Without looking I reach up to the shelf just up and over to the left of me. I knew where it was! I grabbed the jug, popped the cork and waited for the numbness to set in…

I was reaching for the jug…

Their nattering clashing crashing incessant bickering was blistering my ear drums and so I reached for the jug.

Without looking I reach up to the shelf just up and over to the left of me. Peripheral vision wasn’t needed, I knew where it was!

And I heard him say to me, “…whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

I turned and looked him in the eye… brushed him aside, found my jug, I knew where it was! I grabbed the jug, popped the cork and drank, and waited for the numbness to set in…

Gimme a shot! He says!

….for 90 days! Not for the rest of all time, just 90 days, try out calling out to the Father.

And when the thirst comes! Go empty to him, cry out to him! Fill me Lord!!!

“My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

Jeremiah 2:13
