Solsbury Hill

This song spoke to my soul, or God spoke to my soul through this secular song.

In The Spirit> when I heard it for the first time, the line,

  • “Son, ” he said, “Grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”

I burst into tears. I try not to be too quick to dispense with the WHY of such moments… I’ve been mulling it over, considering what it means, tears being how God’s Spirit effects me. Its like being out and about, and seeing/hearing the voice of a loved one, and immediate JOY fills my heart…

This happened quite a while ago. I’ve been longing for HOME.

But add to this that I’m sharing with you, another layer. I’m an intercessor. Paul, you are an intercessor also. My longing for home is also OUR LONGING. By “our longing” I mean all of us that gather together, and those whom we come across. The book of Hebrews, “…enter into his rest”

Vahid’s word last night about the phone before and after its been initialized and setup. Jesus’ entering our hearts, John 1:12, gives us the power to become the son/daughter of God. This earth is not our home.

Hebrews 11:13-16 and John 1:12 come to mind>

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name…

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

John 1:12 KJv – Hebrews 11:13-16 nkjv

We’re not home yet. We are still longing for home. I am still longing for HOME. But look at how its worded there in those two scriptures, the first talks about “the one” and the next talks about “these… they…” We come to God through that narrow gate of “one by one” each of us is called by God in our own hearts, we pass through that moment in time, into him. We have thereby the power to become, other translations say “the right to become” or “the authority to become” this all recalls to my mind the word Art brought to us, “…do you realize who you are? Do you realize who has called you his own?” But it just cannot stop there. That’s an error I fell into. I was content with being alone in him. Some come and go, alone to and from church. Some sit alone in their world, not knowing their longing to be a part of, rather than apart from.

I am praying for us all… that we’ll come home. But that HOME is actually “alongside of one another” as we travel to that city prepared for us.

The message is that we not be content with how things are. Put you heart into gear! Press the gas pedal! If it is a loved one who is content with being “apart from” pray for them… ask God to speak, wait for when he does so… and practice the patience of saying just enough… if its a man in your life, there are men here who will embrace, and be there… if is is woman, there are women here who will do the same…

Last Sunday as we visited with Barry on our front porch, Art, Angie, Cheryl and I… we realized there are those who need to know they are not alone.

Now to the song… but first a scripture God brought my way through Angie Ferreira… Revelation 12:11… the last part of that 3-part verse is “…they loved not their lives so much as a to shrink from death” and here I feel its talking to me about knowing that reaching out and including others will be an end to our current equilibrium… and so be it… its a possibility, but not a certainty, but the certainty is that obedience brings Joy…

They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
    and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death.

revelation 12:11

Here is the song sung

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night

He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
I had to listen, had no choice

I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination
My heart going “Boom-boom-boom”
“Son, ” he said
“Grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”
Hey, back home”

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Though my life was in a rut
‘Til I thought of what I’d say
Which connection I should cut

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going “Boom-boom-boom”
“Hey, ” he said
“Grab your things, I’ve come to take you home”
Hey, back home

When illusion spin her net
I’m never where I wanna be
And liberty, she pirouette
When I think that I am free

Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me

Today I don’t need a replacement
I’ll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going “Boom-boom-boom”
“Hey, ” I said
“You can keep my things, they’ve come to take me home”
