SongTag
…is a delightful, family-friendly game played in a circle, perfect for sharing music tastes, discovering new songs, and sparking meaningful conversations among participants of all ages.
How to Play:
- Setup: Gather players in a circle. Provide a clipboard with a sheet of paper (or a single shared notepad) and a pen. You’ll also need a device connected to speakers for playing music from YouTube.
- Writing Phase: Starting with one player, each participant takes the clipboard, writes down the title and artist of one of their favorite songs, and optionally adds a brief note about why it’s meaningful to them. They then pass the clipboard to the next person in the circle. Continue until everyone has added at least one song (or multiple rounds for longer play).
- Playback and Discussion Phase: Once the list is complete, go through the songs one by one. The person who suggested the song locates it on YouTube and plays it for the group. Everyone listens quietly and attentively while the song plays—no talking during the music to allow full appreciation.
- After the Song: Once it finishes, the group discusses it openly. The suggester can share why they love it, and others can comment on what they enjoyed, any memories it evokes, or similar recommendations.
- The importance of this is to be mindful of the innocence of the sharing time. Staying away from the contrived. Staying away from cross talk – trying to speak to anyone in the group, or to a cause be it political or religious
