I Awoke
I awoke from my slumber
Bleary eyes, slowly focused
The room was dimly lit
But the sun was rising
On the table was a key
And from this room there was a door
And there was no path
I took a sip of that moment
I took up the key,
I shook off my sleep
I walked towards that door
With the key I opened the door
I stepped through it
I stepped into the freedom on the other side
Alongside me I find my brothers and sisters
Ahead of me, behind me, and beside me, my Loving God
I ask him where I’m going
He tells me “we’re going one day at a time”
And so I follow, and so I lead…
Each obstacle that comes my way
He doesn’t flinch
I turn to him,
“Lord, what shall I do?”
And I hear a voice behind me saying,
“This is the way, walk in it.”
Hey! That room is still there,
Where I used to sleep
But the light of day is always here,
Bidding me to enter in,
Deeper, stronger, free
