Tongues of Fire

I have mentioned something to various others, that there is a stirring in my heart of a realization of God at work with us. I am only mentioning this as a stirring, an inkling… and therefore I usually pray alone about it, but you have invited me in, and have come alongside of me, also.

Holiness and brotherly love being primary, but of course not only these. Just like the realization that as the believers gather on Sunday, to worship in word and indeed, that God enters into us, his building. Ephesians 2:22.

I see this happening already in the people who have been accepting Christ on Sunday mornings.

I want to strongly emphasize that I am praying about this, intercession and praying into this work God is doing.

In Leviticus 9:

And they brought what Moses commanded in front of the tent of meeting, and all the congregation drew near and stood before the Lord. And Moses said, “This is the thing that the Lordcommanded you to do, that the glory of the Lordmay appear to you.” …22 Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them, and he came down from offering the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces. Leviticus 9:5-6, 22-24

There are parallels between what happened on the day of Pentecost and this day described in Leviticus.

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4

Why have I never heard anyone draw attention to this?

I found a commentator, Matthew Henry, that mentions this>

2. This fire did, as it were, take possession of the altar. The fire was thus kindled in God’s house, which was to continue as long as the house stood, as we read before, ch. 6 13. This also was a figure of good things to come. The Spirit descended upon the apostles in fire (Acts 2 3), so ratifying their commission, as this spoken of here did the priests’. And the descent of this holy fire into our souls to kindle in them pious and devout affections towards God, and such a holy zeal as burns up the flesh and the lusts of it, is a certain token of God’s gracious acceptance of our persons and performances. That redounds to God’s glory which is the work of his own grace in us. Hereby we know that we dwell in God, and God in us, because he hath thus given us of his Spirit, 1 John 4 13. Now henceforward, (1.) All their sacrifices and incense must be offered with this fire. Note, Nothing goes to God but what comes from him. We must have grace, that holy fire, from the God of grace, else we cannot serve him acceptably, Heb 12 28. (2.) The priests must keep it burning with a constant supply of fuel, and the fuel must be wood, the cleanest of fuel. Thus those to whom God has given grace must take heed of quenching the Spirit. Matthew Henry

My family has been drawn back to God. They have followed me. As i have entered in, they have each joined me. Cheryl and Ashton respond to the presence of the Holy Spirit. The term, “for himself and his household” comes to mind here. That also has been on my mind.

The promise in Exodus that shone brightly to me, causing tears to flow,

There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel. Exodus 25:22

As I searched about the internet, I found this article, written by a woman who calls herself a “seeker.”

But in case we wonder, I looked for it, and found it.

My heart sank. But as I read what she wrote, I found myself rejoicing!
