Why “Running Down Vimy” ?

From 1968 to about 1986 I lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba. For most of my childhood I lived on Vimy Road. The bus was my transportation to and from our church, which was in downtown Winnipeg.

I was maybe 18 years old and as I disembarked from the bus at the corner of Vimy Road and Portage Avenue, I had a mile’s walk ahead of me. I began on this particular day, to speak out loud as though I were preaching a sermon. Nobody was with me. I was alone, but I was talking out loud nonetheless. The topic was the story of the Gospel from Genesis to Revelation.

What amazed me was that I was LEARNING new things as I spoke. Things coming out of me that were inspired. This is my experience, and no one can take it from me! It happened! In fact, when I arrived home, I sat down on the front step of our house, to finish hearing/speaking what I had to say.

This same experience happens to me when I write. My very first blog post on Running Down Vimy is “Its Over“. At the beginning of writing it I was grossly discouraged, just as the words tell the tale of, and in real time God entered in, his words in the prose there, are the words I heard as thoughts in my heart, and they were healing to me. So I created the Blog that day, with those words as my beginning. Running down Vimy is an allusion to that walk down VImy way back then. The differnce between walking and running is about intentionally doing that with all my heart, and with all speed.
